Breaking the cliche and finally figuring out your passion (no more questioning)

““There is no passion to be found playing small-in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.””

— Nelson Mandela

Have you ever been so enveloped in what you're doing that the whole world and all your problems seem to melt away? That you are shining with pure excitement that makes your heart skip a bit? That you can spend hours researching or speaking on with no end?

It’s rare, it’s real and it’s something that should never been overlooked or taken for granted. Those are your passions.

Growing up, whenever someone asked me what i wanted to be in life, i also sat there raking my mind for my answer and coming up with a blank. I felt so weird for never having that answer and as i grew older and hoped that one day it would hit me, it never did. I always gave the textbook answer of what i thought i should say, even though i never truly believed it.

I spent countless hours wondering why..”why couldn’t i figure out my passions, my place, my goal with a career?” it drove me crazy to be honest… especially navigating life choices of job paths, studies in school, internships, etc.

The crazy part is, I was looking at life all wrong. You see, society has taught us to define out identity and our worth by our job title. Think about it, whenever you meet a new person what is one of the first topics you discuss, ‘what you do for work’

The issue with this is, we are MORE THAN THAT! We are complex, interesting, amazing people that have so much more to offer than sitting a desk, or trading our time for money forever.

I came to a point where i realized that there is no one answer to the question i had seeked for so long, there were many. I learned more about myself and with it was the continued journey that has brought me here today.

I booked my first international trip when i was 20, it was a big deal for me..my first experience on my own as an adult visiting my best friend in Canada. From that moment forward, i knew that i lit a fiery passion inside. I came back to book another trip to Europe for two months and upon returning from that trip, i traveled abroad for school for another 6 months. I learned that yes indeed, the travel bug is real lol.

I have learned so much throughout my journey but the biggest part that i want to stress to you is to keep trying and exploring. Don’t let the insecurity of not knowing keep you from being happy, we are all there even the ones who seem the most put together.

Travel changed my life and unlocked a side of me that i didn’t know existed 20 years into my life, there is no timeline or ‘feeling late to the party’. Keep going!
